Day Dream

D

i hear you riddle off another song from your weekly playlist
small talk in the shower again
i want to join in but decide to stand by the door
i left my body suit in the closet

you poured us a homemade brew, swirled with juniper, hibiscus too
do we have enough limes? you ask
we share a laugh, a smile, our worlds collide,
sculpt a happiness hue: the green prisms of your eyes

my heartbeat is an echoing whisper in my chest
we have the whole day – just you and i
you touch me and my body lights up like a carnival
all i need is one ticket to ride

we lay here soft and speechless
watch the day shed its light
so still, together, with you
this is what it feels to be alive
