I’m Sorry, Could You Say That Again?

I

If any of you are familiar with the very popular band Fall Out Boy, I have a question for you–especially if you call yourself a fan–okay, what do a majority of their songs even mean?

For example–just look at these titles:

“This Aint A Scene, It’s An Arm Race”

“A Little Less 16 Candles, A Little More Touch Me”

“America’s Suitehearts”

“Coffee’s For Closers”

“Disloyal Order Of Water Buffaloes”

I can see why they have so many fans…these titles are just too clever–or are they?

Here are some songs of Fall Out Boy that I suggest you listen to:

Lyrics:
‘I can’t explain a thing
I want everything to change and stay the same
Outside doesn’t care about anyone and anything
Now come together, Come apart.
Only get lonely when you read the charts.

And oh baby when they made me, they broke the mold.
Girls used to follow me around, then I got cold.
Fly your cameras in the air.
And wave them like you just don’t care.

I will never believe in anything again.
I will never believe in anything again.
Well change will come. Oh!
Change will come!
I will never believe in anything again.

We will never believe again.
Kick drum beat in my chest again. No!
We will never believe again.
Preach electric to a microphone stand. No!

I’m the mascot for what you’ve become.
Our love for mayhem more than the love.

No!

Fly your cameras in the air.
And wave them cause I just don’t care.
Fly your cameras in the air.
And wave them cause I just don’t care.

I will never believe in anything again.
I will never believe in anything again.
Oh oh oh change will come!
Oh change will come!
I will never believe in anything again.
I will never believe in anything again.
Change will come! Oh!
Change will come!
I will never believe in anything again.

We will never believe again.
Kick drum beat in my chest again. No!
We will never believe again.
Preach electric to a microphone stand. No!’

“Coffee’s For Closers” is very difficult for me to comprehend. If the title was “Coffee’s For Closure,” it would work, but their choice of wording is not very good–in my opinion. If their original choice of word was “closure,” but they decided to purposely be stupid and use “closer” instead, that makes me question their intelligence. Are they establishing an inside jokes for their fans to enjoy, or a discussion group for people who are not able to use a dictionary?

I have nothing against the band. I am a fan, but I’m not at the same time. I used to respect their lyrics and choice of wording as well as alliteration, but now I’m just completely confused. I feel like the titles of each song have no relation with the actual song, except for a few.

What the heck?

I expect to hear about how coffee brings people closer (I’m assuming), and caffeine is not even brought up! I feel like I just wasted 3 or so minutes of my day listening to it! Oh those titles are so captivating…

Pretty good huh?

Nah, just desperate.
