Boom Boom Wow

B

Black Eyed Peas new single, Boom Boom Pow has been number one for the last 13 weeks. According to the top 100 chart provided by Billboard magazine, it has already peaked; and unfortunately, I don’t think it’s going anywhere anytime soon. The word shit is repeated four times throughout this whole song. Why? I do not know. I feel like the majority of the time the writers just get bored of trying, and decide to  rhyme up with fuck and pit with shit.

Jeez people, show some effort.

But then again, some artists like Xzibit or Eminem cuss so much that it’s like they have Tourette’s syndrome, yet they redeem themselves with great lyricism. Here are some examples:

Multiply – Xzibit:

‘Get it Crip while the gettin is good
before the game is 10% skill and 90% Hollywood
I don’t need that, I don’t believe that
E’rybody gon’ get hurt, if I do dirt
I flirt with the idea of quittin’ the game
Nah!! I’ma evolve continue to change’

Rock Bottom – Eminem:

‘I feel like I’m walking a tight rope, without a circus net
I’m popping percocets, I’m a nervous wreck
I deserve respect; but I work a sweat for this worthless check
Bout to burst this tech, at somebody to reverse this debt’

But people fall for this…:

Boom Boom Pow – Black Eyed Peas

‘I like that boom boom pow
Them chickens jackin’ my style
They try copy my swagger
I’m on that next shit now’

This may be my own bias opinion, but I am pretty positive that all these songs are based off of the same topic which is: the struggle of making it in the music industry and the struggle behind either people copying you, or taking advantage of you. Either way, it’s expressed in all three of these songs, but differently each time. At this moment, using one word, I am going to describe each excerpt.

Multiply: Confident

Reason why: ‘…I flirt with the idea of quittin’ the game
Nah!! I’ma evolve continue to change

Rock Bottom: Vulnerable

Reason why: I feel like I’m walking a tight rope, without a circus net

Boom Boom Pow: Narcissistic

Reason why: ‘…Them chickens jackin’ my style
They try copy my swagger

Swagger?

Jackin’?

…what?

The last thing I am seduced by is the use of words; that’s for sure.

Again, this is only my opinion. Maybe I’m wrong since this song has been number one for 13 weeks. But hey, what do I know?

It’s up to the listeners at this point.
